Prada Spring 2008

It was just before my twelfth birthday when Miuccia Prada sent girls donning fairy illustrations, purple and green checked plaids, and flower adorned shoes that looked as if they were molded from Sculpy clay down the runway of her Spring 2008 show. The colors were vibrant, the patterns were peculiar, and what twelve-year-old doesn’t love fairies!? I was obsessed. I tore out pages from my mother’s copy of Vogue and taped them to my bedroom walls. Inspired, I mixed my own prints from what I had in my wardrobe and even purchased plaid bobby socks that I wore with my tween-appropriate kitten heels. I was just beginning to develop my sense of personal style and Miuccia Prada became my goddess. And though I’ve become much more of a “jeans and tee-shirt” kind of gal as of late, hints of this early influence can still be found within my current style. Rainbow colored stripes, plaids, and exaggerated accessories still find their way into my pared down look. And after months of scouring The RealReal, recently, a pair of those perfect, magenta and chartreuse, fairy-inspired, Sculpy clay looking flower heels made their way into my closet. Living in NYC now, I don’t wear them as often as I should, but I see them every morning and smile, knowing I’ve made my twelve-year-old self’s dreams come true.
