Caudalie Essence

Caudalie Essence

OK, so let’s start this by asking a simple question — what, in the world of skincare, actually is “essence”? Honestly, when I started integrating an essence into my skincare routine
I had no idea… But I did know that everyone was talking about it, and every beauty site was including it in their product round ups, so I figured I should just go ahead and give it a try (I’m an easy sell when it comes to beauty products. That crazy at-home laser will soften my lines? Brighten my skin? And comes with a waiver? Sold!).

Anyways, I fully started using essence about a year ago… Since entering this (somewhat confusing) world, I’ve tried what seems like the full spectrum of brands – from cult Korean brands to super luxe (read: expensive) Japanese brands. None of which I bought more than once… and I was starting to think the whole essence thing was a hoax all together.

But the conversation definitely changed for me when Caudalie released their Vinoperfect Essence earlier this year. When I say game-changer, I mean it. Something happened when I started using the product — and essence finally had a reason for existing. Using the product, day and night, my skin is brighter, softer, clearer. My minimal breakouts have disappeared altogether and my makeup routine is down to tinted moisturizer and a swipe of mascara (if that).

So while I’m still not 100% sure I know what the definition of “essence” really is — I do know that Caudalie’s version of it has found itself a permanent home in my skincare routine.

  • Well, the reason this is different is probably the glycolic acid. The Korean toners don’t really have that ingredient very often, so this is not really representative for essences, but has more in common with acid toners. I love Whamisa Deep Rich for an extra hydrating layer.
