Too often, the thought of Los Angeles style is colored with images of yoga pants and sneakers. It’s true that California, especially the southern region, boasts a certain type of casual, in fashion and lifestyle. What’s untrue is the notion that is casual is synonymous with careless.
There’s a movement of thoughtfully approached clothing emerging from LA – a plethora of brands that embody an easy elegance while still clinging to the carefree cool of the west. Behind many of these brands are women we’ve long admired who have essentially mastered looking and feeling good simultaneously.
Women like Rosetta Getty and Stephanie Danan from Co. embrace updated classics that serve as a canvas for the modern woman. Kathleen Whitaker makes jewelry that has the flexibility to be the forefront or the support in any outfit. And of course, our friend Heidi Merrick who drips cool into just about everything she does.
What sets these few apart is their willingness to be unapologetic in the language of their designs, and how they leave room for that language to be interpreted by whomever puts on their clothes.
These are some of the brands that Brie tapped into to explore this sartorial layer of Los Angeles with our beautiful friend Abrielle – both of whom are LA Natives. Captured against neutral slices of the city, they perfectly demonstrate the updated ease of California dressing. Yes, even in 107 degree weather.
In addition to being a strikingly beautiful depiction of California elegance, Abrielle Stedman (who currently represents many of the elevated brands in LA) also works as a creative director. You can find her work here and her dreamy Instagram here, but it will probably make you want to move to California.
