One of the first people I met in Istanbul was Demet (All these first names are decidedly delicious). She’s one of Alisa and Ashley‘s friends, and very much still holds onto the tradition of Turkish hospitality. I mean, she asked us to come have a cup at her house the very second we set foot in Turkey.
So I got to visit her house before meeting her. I loved how there were books everywhere, like lots of little hints telling me I’d just love her. Here are a few of my favorites:
A book about Guy Bourdin, one of my favorite photographers ever in the whole world – Yeah, ok. Easy choice.
A book about Romy Schneider, one of the women whose beauty has touched me the most. Especially in the movie The Things of Life. Ah, ah la la.
Tarkovsky. One of the directors that stuck with me. At the start, I didn’t understand any of his movies, which impressed me a lot, and even more as my friends were talking about them for hours on end, how intello-snob of them. But then, I started to adore them. (Not my friends, Tarkovsky’s films.)
I didn’t get the time to open this one up. But it made me think about the incredible universe of Slim Aarons. This one’s ordered ASAP.
HOUNDS OF LOVE! One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers. Kate Bush, my dearest love. And in this photo, ohhhhh lala.
8 million magazines and books, like my apartment. Like yours as well, I’m sure.
Books and magazines everywhere! After 5 minutes at her house, I knew we had so much in common.
A week later, we had to say our goodbyes. We had met up every day in Istanbul. She’ll be in New York soon, and I’ll be oh so soon back to Istanbul. She’s fantastic. Her books didn’t lie.
