I’m not even going to begin to tell you how I felt the day the Elle Uk team asked me to not only do a full spread for them, but also to work on a portrait of Demi Moore for a collector edition of their magazine.
Okay, yeah, so I will tell you. It went something like this: “Stop the carrrrrrrrr!!! Emergency!!! I’ll get out here, I need a drink. Oh man oh man oh man!”
There’s quite a few steps in the life of an illustrator. The first doors hit you right in the face like the first thing published that you bring to show your mom like it’s perfect score on a test in school, the first horoscope you have to do (Wait a minute, now how am I supposed to draw a Capricorn in a new way? I mean…. C’mon!”), the first call you get from an agent, the first failure, the first exhibition… The first cover.
I just want to say to everyone like me who chose slightly more complicated paths, the roads less traveled, the ones with lots of roadblocks and long stretches of anguish, I just want to say that the most important thing is to always be moving toward your desire. Just do the things that make you smile and you’ll always end up somewhere. Even if that place is not anywhere you’d imagined you’d be at the start.
As it was on this illustrator’s path that one fine day, frustrated by yet another horoscope commission (Rarrrrr, shit, how am I supposed to draw a brand new Sagittarius for the 6th time?), I made the decision to start this blog. …Just to draw what I wanted and hear what people like me thought of my drawings.
Voilà that’s all! Thank you to Elle Uk and above all, thanks to you. Merci, merci beaucoup!
