On Nourishment!

5 months ago by

Hello, hello and welcome to Nourishment Month at the Atelier!

Alright, honesty time. I was a bit stumped on what to write for this little intro to Nourishment Month.

It’s not that I’m not excited about Nourishment Month — I am. Hell, I came up with the theme.

It’s just that I already wrote the voiceover to the above video which summed up my thoughts on nourishment with a neat bow (and neater visuals) all in under a minute.

So now, here I am, a naturally cynical person who is mindful, but honestly not that mindful, about my health and I’m trying to scoop out more of my “insides” about nourishment and self care. Inside my head it sounds like someone scrapping the innards out of a carved pumpkin. All the pulp is gone and you’re just left with that scccrappe – scccrappe – scccrappe sound.

On one such scapppeee I found one little pumpkin seed left at the bottom of my pumpkin brain (wow, I really went that far with that metaphor, didn’t expect that, but bear with me).

It was the sentiment that you have to help yourself before helping others. Even if the plane is going down and those oxygen masks that are your worst nightmare because it means death is imminent pop down, you are instructed to save yourself before trying to save others, even if the others are children. Those damn flight attendants still insist, put your mask on first!

When someone asks me what my definition of nourishment and self care is, it’s that sentiment. It’s doing the thing that at first seems selfish but is actually not selfish because you’re doing it so you can be the best version of yourself and in turn, help others as needed.

With the holidays approaching at the speed of a freight train, I think it’s imperative to be reminded to be a little selfish on behalf of being the best version of yourself for those around you.

This month on the Atelier we’ll be talking about different ways to nourish yourself — from the spiritual realm, to gut health, to how we’re choosing to give back over the holidays, and what we’re thankful for.

Now let’s all take a collective deep breath and light a candle inside our pumpkin heads (nope, still not letting that one go quite yet) and get some sleep.
